The Morrisville State College athletics department has named sophomore Krista Baxter (Downsville, N.Y.) and junior Jeremy Stewart (Moravia, N.Y.) it’s Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 14.
Baxter, midfielder for the women’s soccer team, led the Mustangs in three games on the week, posting six points on three goals. In the contest against Gallaudet, Baxter tallied two goals in the second half to lead a comeback attempt that fell short with a 4-3 final. She followed with a tally against Harrisburg on Sunday.
Senior forward Ashley Engle (Manheim, PA) posted a hat trick, netting three scores to lead the visiting Houghton College Highlanders to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Morrisville State Thursday afternoon in Morrisville.
The Mustangs drop to 2-14 on the season, while Houghton improves to 7-5.
Adria Bridgwood (Brewster, MA) and Kristin McKane (Clayville, N.Y.) each added a goal for Houghton in the win, as Hillery Duman (Chaffee, NY) posted the win in net, turning away two.
Visiting Utica College volleyball opened match action on a fast pace Wednesday night, topping host Morrisville State College 3-1 in non-conference action in Morrisville with set scores of 25-12, 25-18, 21-25, and 25-20.
Morrisville State dropped to 5-14 overall while the Pioneers improved to 7-18.
Cassandra Manzer and Madison Bayer led the Utica attacking game, registering 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while Briona Enny led the defensive efforts with 13 digs. Shauna Murray had six solo blocks at the net.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office has announced its weekly award winners, naming Morrisville State College’s Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, Md.) the Men’s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.
The Morrisville State College athletic department invites all area children to take part in the NCAA Football’s 18th annual “Take a Kid to the Game” (TAKG) program as the Mustangs take on William Paterson University, Saturday, October 20 at 12 p.m. in the college’s stadium. Kids, ages 12 and younger, will receive free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket.
The Morrisville State College women’s soccer team scored first on Sunday, as they faced conference opponent Penn State Harrisburg, but the Nittany Lions proved to be too much as they defeated the Mustangs 8-1 in Middletown, P.A.
Morrisville State’s sophomore midfielder Krista Baxter (Downsville, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game at 15:53 when she jumped on a loose ball in front of the goal and buried it in the back of the net, giving the Mustangs their only lead of the day.

The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) has announced the players of the week for the week ending October 13, naming Morrisville State College freshman quarterback Jory Tanner (Adams, N.Y.) the Offensive Rookie of the Week.
Morrisville State fought back from a two goal deficit to tie the game at three, but couldn’t hold on as they lost the 4-3 decision to host Gallaudet in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
Sophomore Amanda Hunt (Tunkhannock, P.A.) and senior Austin Townsley (Horseheads, N.Y.) were top finishers for the Morrisville State College women’s and men’s cross country teams at the CCOC Championships, Saturday held at Hobart College. The women’s team ran to an 8th place finish out of 16 teams, while the men finished 7th out of 17 teams.
