Why SUNY Morrisville Exercise Science?

Our unique A.S. degree program features two exercise physiology classes that provide you with a complete understanding of the body’s response to exercise. The curriculum also equips you with a strong foundation in math and science, along with fitness-related classes in general wellness & fitness and exercise physiology. You will learn to handle a diverse set of exercise and fitness situations to strengthen your confidence and marketability in the field.

Get a true hands-on learning experience at our Exercise Science Laboratory, which offers access to a full range of the latest fitness and analysis equipment in a live exercise environment.

When you graduate, you’ll be ready to work in a variety of roles and be prepared for trainer certification from the American College of Sports Medicine.

You can also choose to continue your studies through SUNY Morrisville’s Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program in exercise science.

Skills You Will Gain

Upon program completion, you will be able to:

Describe the role of physical activity in the prevention of and treatment of chronic diseases
Describe the body’s chronic and acute responses to physical activity
Distinguish between aerobic and anaerobic physical exercise and recommend activities to specifically test or train either system
Evaluate whether the allied health profession is your desired career path, and assess ability to model appropriate professional behavior
Accurately assess a client’s heart rate and blood pressure at rest and during physical activity

Maddie Baum, a Human Performance Health Promotion student and member of the women's Lacrosse team, explains how SUNY Morrisville has instilled her with confidence to succeed as a leader both in the classroom and on the field. *As of August 2023, the HPHP program is now referred to as Exercise Science.

Kristen L. Kane

Kristen Kane, Ph.D is the Co-Chair for the Division of Health and Wellness and an instructor in Human Performance and Health Promotion. She holds Doctorate and Master's degrees in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Sport in Exercise Psychology from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Oswego State University.
