Morrisville State fought back from a two goal deficit to tie the game at three, but couldn’t hold on as they lost the 4-3 decision to host Gallaudet in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
Gallaudet struck first with a goal from Monique Balcarcel just 6:44 into the game. The Mustangs answered back with a goal of their own at 13:25 whenLindsay Peri (Marathon, N.Y.) dribbled a pass from Jordan Nadeau (Cobleskill, N.Y.) down the left hand side, before beating the goalkeeper with a shot to the opposite corner of the goal..
The Bisons struck again with an unassisted goal from Louisenie Philostin at 34:37. With just six seconds left in the half, Gallaudet scored once more, giving them a 3-1 lead going into half time.
Morrisville State came back strong in the second half, scoring just under three minutes into the half as Courtney Purcell (Fabius, N.Y.) headed in a corner kick from Lindsay Peri at 47:50.
Sophomore midfielder Krista Baxter (Downsville, N.Y.) added a goal of her own for the Mustangs, as she ripped a shot from 25 yards out, beating Bisons goalkeeper, Kara Gulvas with an unassisted goal at 64:49, evening the score at three.
With less than ten seconds to go in the contest, with overtime seemingly inevitable, Gallaudet forward Louisenie Philostin netted her second goal of the contest with an assist from Sofia Lindevall securing the win for the Bisons.
Jennifer Zidzik (Lambertville, N.J.) recorded the loss for the Mustangs, tallying four saves, while Kara Gulvas earned the win for Gallaudet with 11 saves.
Morrisville State travels to Penn State Harrisburg, Sunday October 14 for a conference game at 12:00 pm.
