The Morrisville State College athletics department has named sophomore Krista Baxter (Downsville, N.Y.) and junior Jeremy Stewart (Moravia, N.Y.) it’s Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 14.
Baxter, midfielder for the women’s soccer team, led the Mustangs in three games on the week, posting six points on three goals. In the contest against Gallaudet, Baxter tallied two goals in the second half to lead a comeback attempt that fell short with a 4-3 final. She followed with a tally against Harrisburg on Sunday.
Baxter has posted four scores to date on the season.
The graduate of Downsville High is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Betseylynn and James Baxter of Downsville.
Stewart was key in Morrisville State’s victory over Western Connecticut State on Saturday. The junior defensive back registered four total tackles, three solo, but also forced a crucial WestConn fumble early in the fourth in the redzone stopping the Colonials drive.
Following a quick three and out series on the ensuing Mustang drive, WestConn again coughed up the ball on the punt, and Stewart recovered the ball at midfield, positioning Morrisville State for the go ahead score with 9:33 to go.
The graduate of Moravia High is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. He is the son of Sandra Wilkinson and Charles Stewart of Moravia.
