Visiting Oneonta State field hockey tallied four second half scores to top host Morrisville State College Saturday morning by a 4-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) final on Drake Field in Morrisville. Morrisville State drops to 1-5 overall, 0-2 in conference play, while Oneonta improves to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in SUNYAC action. Playing to a scoreless draw after the first period, Oneonta struck early in the second as Suzanne Wright crossed the ball to Andrea Day on the right post for the tip in tally at the 39:54 mark.
Visiting Morrisville State College held host Montclair State University to just seven points, but couldn’t find the end zone offensively, as they fell short in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) defensive battle Saturday afternoon in Montclair, New Jersey. Morrisville State drops to 0-3 on the season, 0-1 in conference play, while the Red Hawks collect their first win of 2012 to improve to 1-2 overall, 1-0 in NJAC action.
SUNY Oswego field hockey picked up their first win of the 2012 season, defeating visiting Morrisville State 4-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday afternoon in Oswego. Morrisville State drops to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in conference play, while the Lakers improve to 1-3, 1-0 in the SUNYAC. Oswego notched the first tally of the afternoon just 1:13 into the contest as Michelle Ruskey connected with Alyssa Hare for the early score.
The Morrisville State College athletics department has named senior Sarah Angerer (Cooperstown, N.Y.) and freshman Daniel Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 9. Angerer, forward for the field hockey team, tallied two goals, including the game winner, in the 3-1 victory over Wells College to give the Mustangs their first win of the season. She currently leads the team in goals scored.
The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team held on to defeat visiting SUNY Oswego, 2-1 in non-conference play Wednesday afternoon. The Mustangs improve to 2-2-1 on the season overall with the win. Jacob Chase (Cooperstown,N.Y.) tallied both goals for the Mustangs, his second and third of the season. At 38:59 Chase finished a rebound off of the Lakers keeper, PJ Goodwin, giving Morrisville State a one goal lead going into half time. Chris Brocher (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied the assist on the goal.
The Morrisville State College women’s soccer team dropped their second straight to a conference opponent, losing to Cazenovia College 6-1 Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats (3-2-1, 1-1 NEAC) struck early, scoring a goal just 42 seconds into the game when senior midfielder Megan McDermott scored her first of two on the day. McDermott was one of two that tallied two goals for Cazenovia with Sonni Pank also putting in two. Alicia Priest and Carol McEvoy each scored once for the Wildcats.
Morrisville State College head coach, Jason Longo, has announced the addition of Brian Frankenfield to the men’s lacrosse coaching staff for the 2012-13 season. Frankenfield comes to Morrisville State from the Central Square Upstate Lacrosse League where he has been involved in all aspects of the program since 2009. Aside from coaching, Frankenfield also served as the technical advisor for the league, overseeing all teams.
Four different Mustangs registered goals in a high scoring affair Tuesday afternoon, but visiting Morrisville State College field hockey fell short as Hartwick College picked up the 7-4 non-conference victory in Oneonta. Morrisville State drops to 1-3 overall, while the Hawks improve to 2-2.
The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team has partnered up with the Italian American Coalition for Kids (IACKids), as part of the programs continued community outreach, in their contest scheduled Saturday, Oct. 6, against Penn State Berks on the Morrisville State campus.
The Morrisville State College women’s soccer team fell to Lancaster Bible College 9-0 Friday night in Lancaster. The team’s overall record falls to 0-2-1, while their conference record is now 0-1. Lancaster Bible score three times in the first ten minutes of the game before going on to beat the Mustangs 9-0 in the opening weekend of conference play.
