Four different Mustangs registered goals in a high scoring affair Tuesday afternoon, but visiting Morrisville State College field hockey fell short as Hartwick College picked up the 7-4 non-conference victory in Oneonta.
Morrisville State drops to 1-3 overall, while the Hawks improve to 2-2.
Ilze Stots (Clinton Corners, N.Y.), Kissandra Blaiser (Canastota, N.Y.) and Rebecca Quackenbush (Barker, N.Y.) each tallied a goal and an assist, while Rebecca Meyer (Morrisville, N.Y.) added a score. Ellen DePasquale (Vernon, N.Y.) recorded the loss in net, turning away nine.
Hartwick was led by Katie Lonsky, who posted a team high four goals on the day, while teammate Kelsey Kimble added two. Cassie Jonaitis tallied one and assisted two others. Megan Campbell tallied six saves in the win in cage.
Hartwick jumped off to a 3-0 lead before Morrisville State was able to put one on the board, as Quackenbush netted a score off a penalty corner opportunity seconds before the close of the first half.
In the second, the Hawks added three more tallies before Blaiser responded for the Mustangs at the 55:39 mark to cut the lead to 6-2.
Lonsky regained a five goal advantage for Hartwick with a shot that hit inside the post, but Meyer nailed a backhanded shot within seconds of Lonsky’s goal to cut the lead to four.
The Mustangs had several chances down the stretch, including three straight penalty corners, but Stots was the lone Morrisville State player able to convert, as Hartwick walked away with the 7-4 victory.
Morrisville State returns to the field Friday, opening State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on the road at Oswego. The Mustangs return to host SUNY Oneonta Saturday at 11 a.m. on Drake Field.
