SUNY Oswego field hockey picked up their first win of the 2012 season, defeating visiting Morrisville State 4-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday afternoon in Oswego.
Morrisville State drops to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in conference play, while the Lakers improve to 1-3, 1-0 in the SUNYAC.
Oswego notched the first tally of the afternoon just 1:13 into the contest as Michelle Ruskey connected with Alyssa Hare for the early score.
Nearly 14 minutes later, Hare snuck a second past the Mustangs Nicole Gregg (Lisle, N.Y.), giving Oswego the two goal advantage before Ruskey added another four minutes later off a deflection shot on a penalty corner play.
Midway through the second period Ruskey broke free through the defense and notched her second score of the season, adding to the Lakers lead.
Gregg posted three saves in the loss for Morrisville State.
Grace Lombardi picked up the shut out win for Oswego, turning away four as Morrisville State was held to just eight shots (two in the second half) in the contest.
Oswego held the 19-8 advantage in shots, and 11-9 advantage in penalty corners on the day.
Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, hosting Oneonta at 11 a.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
