Despite taking a 1-0 lead into the second half, the Morrisville State Mustangs couldn’t hold off Lancaster Bible and settled for a 3-3 tie in the opening game of conference play. The Mustangs are now 1-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play. The Mustangs took an early lead as Brian Culkin (West Islip, N.Y.) scored off a Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, M.D.) assist just over six minutes into the game. The Mustangs and Chargers stayed at 1-0 until Miles Herron (Toto, Guam) scored the equalizer for the Chargers at 55:20.
Due to impeding weather the football game at Hartwick will start 15 minutes early instead of at its scheduled 1:00pm start time.
Sophomore Amanda Hunt (Tunkhannock, P.A.) and senior Austin Townsley (Horseheads, N.Y.) were top finishers for the Morrisville State College women’s and men’s cross country teams at the SUNY Oswego Cross Country Invitational, Saturday in Oswego.
Morrisville State College field hockey struggled early Saturday, suffering an 8-1 setback to non-conference Utica College in Utica. Morrisville State falls to 1-2 overall, while Utica remains untouched at 3-0. Kissandra Blaiser (Canastota, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal for the Mustangs, notching the score late in the second half off an assist from Ilze Stots (Clinton Corners, N.Y.).
Senior forward Sarah Angerer (Cooperstown, N.Y.) tallied two second half scores to lead host Morrisville State College field hockey to a 3-1 victory over visiting Wells College Friday afternoon in Morrisville. Morrisville State improves to 1-1 overall and will return to action tomorrow, traveling to Utica College. Wells drops to 1-3 overall. Avary McKinney (Rochester, N.Y.) posted the lone score for the Express, netting the tally off an initial centering pass from Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.
Despite holding R.I.T. to one goal in the first half, the Mustangs could not hold off the Tigers relentless attack. R.I.T. came out strong, controlling the ball for much of the first half and creating several scoring opportunities that the Mustangs were able to stave off.  R.I.T. kept coming, however, and proved to be too much for Morrisville State, who dropped their home opener this afternoon 5-1.
The Morrisville State College athletic department has named Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala) and Tyler Dunworth (Poestenkill, N.Y.) it’s Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 1. Alvarez, sophomore forward, led the Mustangs men’s soccer team to a third place finish at the SUNY Potsdam College Cup over the weekend, tallying a goal and an assist for three team points.
After winning the consolation game against Hilbert College in the Potsdam College Cup, which concluded this past Sunday, Morrisville State men’s soccer players Joey Plummer (Rochester, N.Y.) and Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) were named to the SUNY Potsdam College Cup All-Tournament team. Plummer, sophomore midfielder for the Mustangs, recorded a goal in the 3-2 overtime loss to SUNY Potsdam. He is studying Business Administration and is the son of Suzanne and Joe Plummer of Rochester, N.Y.
After playing a scoreless game until the 56th minute, the Mustangs and Wildcats settle for a 1-1 tie in the consolation game of the Canton Tournament. Morrisville State struck first when Lindsay Peri (Marathon, N.Y.) netted Morrisville State’s first goal of the season with the assist going to Morgan Hewitt (Camden, N.Y.). The Mustangs held onto the lead for much of the second half, until Melissa Toler (Paso Robles, C.A.) scored for Bay Path with less than eight minutes remaining in the game.
After playing a scoreless first half against Hilbert College the Mustangs struck twice in the second half and held off a late run to win 2-1 in the consolation game of the Potsdam College Cup. Jacob Chase (Cooperstown, N.Y.) put Morrisville State on the board first at 50:54 with the assist going to Tom Huber (West Islip, N.Y.). The Mustangs second goal came off a corner kick at 78:28 when Sean Shields (Rotterdam, N.Y.) scored off the cross by Karim Ouedraogo (Burkina Faso).
