On Wednesday, State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher, announced the winners of the 2011-12 Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, III and NJCAA levels. More than 70 student-athletes from across the SUNY System were honored, including Morrisville State senior student-athletes, Alison Falkenburgh (Bayport, N.Y.) and Tom Longland (Dunnville, Ontario) who were selected as recipients of this distinguished honor for Division III women’s and men’s lacrosse, respectively.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its 2012 Softball North and South Division All-Conference team selections, naming Morrisville State College's Monique Smith (Bronx, N.Y.) to its North Division Second Team.
The Morrisville State College athletics department has named freshman Danielle Puzio (Holbrook, N.Y.) and senior Andrew Stein (Oswego, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 29.
Puzio posted a 2-0 record on the week in net for the women's lacrosse team, as they claimed the 2012 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division Championship Title on Sunday. In tournament action, Puzio posted a total 26 saves in two games for a .565 save percentage, including six crucial stops in the overtime periods in the title contest.
The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse program teamed up with the Wounded Warriors Project, Saturday April 28th in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action against Hilbert College. The Mustangs raised $4,000 for the Wounded Warriors Project, from the raffles, gate proceeds, online jersey auction and a $200 donation from senior Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) the 2012 Rays of Light Servant Leadership Award recipient. In 2011 the Mustangs partnered with the WWP and raised $4500 for the cause in their first year hosting an event.
