Six earn All-Conference honors for Morrisville State women's lacrosse

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its 2012 NAC West Division Women's Lacrosse All-Conference selections, naming six Morrisville State student-athletes to its all-conference teams for the 2012 season.



Morrisville State posted a program best 11-4 regular season record, and finished atop the conference with a perfect 9-0 record, earning the overall top seed in the conference championship tournament, in which they claimed the title in a thrilling 11-10 three overtime victory over Keuka on Sunday.



Freshman attack, Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) earned first team honors, along with senior midfielder Hillary Hartnett (Fairport, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, N.Y.). Sophomore defender Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) also earned first team honors. Freshman Megan Carlin (Pawling, N.Y.) and senior Alison Falkenburgh (Bayport, N.Y.) received second and third team honors, respectively.



Wood led the team in scoring with 69 goals and 17 assists for 86 team points, 17 of her goals came on free position opportunities, while three were game winners as she started all 15 games at attack. Aside from scoring, Wood was second on the team in ground balls (55) and draw controls (64), and was key in the Mustangs defense in the transition game, causing 35 opponent turnovers. She was a three-time NAC West Player of the Week selection this season and currently ranks second in the conference overall in both goals scored and points tallied.



Hartnett started in all 15 games for Morrisville State at midfield and tallied 48 goals and assisted three others for 51 team points, while posting two game inning tallies, 16 scores on free position opportunities, 50 draw controls and 42 ground balls. She ranks second on the team in scoring, is fourth in ground balls, and third in draw controls. She earned NAC West Player of the Week honors once this season, and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after notching the game winning tally on Sunday.



Anderson was third on the team in scoring, and started and appeared in all 15 games at midfield, while tallying 35 goals and an assist for 36 team points, two game winning tallies and six on free position opportunities, while leading the team in ground balls (58) and draw controls (79). Key to the Mustangs defensive game as well, Anderson ranks second on the team in caused turnovers (31). She ranks third overall in the conference in draw controls and is third overall in ground balls collected.



Edmondson appeared and starting in all 15 games to date this season at defense, and has tallied 12 goals, one game winner, 43 ground balls, 10 draw controls, and caused 17 turnovers. Three of her scores were on free position tallies. Instrumental to the transition game this season, she often used her speed and ability to strip opponents of the possession and move the ball to the offensive end of the field.



Carlin earned second team honors at defense for her performance on the season. Carlin was a key component to the defensive unit, registering three goals and four assists, while collecting 26 ground balls, seven draw controls, and caused 16 turnovers in 15 games. She currently ranks fourth on the team in caused turnovers (16).



A three-time All-Conference selection, Falkenburgh earned third team all-conference honors at the midfield position, as she started and appeared in 13 games for the Mustangs, registering 11 goals and a team high 28 assists for 39 points, while registering 35 ground balls, a draw control and nine caused turnovers. Four of her scores were on free position opportunities. Ranking third in the conference in assists, Falkenburgh averaged 1.8 assists per game for the Mustangs, posting a collegiate best four assists in four conference games this season.



Morrisville State will face-off against Castleton State College Saturday, May 5 a noon for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title, and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
