The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team used a huge fourth quarter offensive attack to defeat North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent SUNY Cobleskill by a 15-3 decision Wednesday night in Morrisville. The Mustangs improve to 5-3 on the season, 2-0 in conference play, while Cobleskill dropped to 1-6 overall, 1-2 in NEAC action.
The Morrisville State College softball team split double header action Wednesday afternoon against Canton, topping the Kangaroos 5-3 in the first of the day, and falling 5-4 in the second. Morrisville State remains even at 5-5, while Canton improves to 6-13.
The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team concluded a spectacular 2011-12 season Saturday, finishing as the Reserve Championship Team for the region. Keely O'Hara (Cazenovia, N.Y.) finished fifth overall in the high point rider competition, following a fifth place in the open equitation over fences and third place in the open equitation on the flat classes, respectively.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its player of the week selections, naming Morrisville State senior goalkeeper, Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) the men's lacrosse defensive player of the week for the week ending April 1. Hinchey was instrumental to the Mustangs 2-0 week by registering 22 total saves and recording a .595 save percentage. He opened the week with an 8-7 victory over Vassar in which he turned away seven, including four in the final quarter, before making 15 stops in the 12-8 win over conference rival Keuka on Saturday.
The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team dominated visiting Penn State Abington Sunday afternoon, by a 21-2 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) final in Morrisville. The Mustangs improve to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Nittany Lions drop to 0-6 and 0-2 in conference play.
Senior midfielder Devin Maxwell (Culver City, Cali.) posted a collegiate best five goals, leading visiting Morrisville State College men's lacrosse to a 12-8 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Keuka College Saturday afternoon in Keuka. Morrisville State improves to 4-3 overall with the victory and opens the conference schedule with a 1-0 record. Keuka drops to 2-4 overall, 0-1 in NEAC play.
The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team handed the College of St. Elizabeth a 21-5 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) loss Saturday early afternoon, in Morrisville. The Mustangs improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Soaring Eagles drop to 1-4, 0-1 in NEAC play. Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) and Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with five goals apiece, while Hillary Hartnett (Fairport, N.Y) added four.
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2011-12 Division III Upstate Men's Basketball All-Star Teams, naming Morrisville State College sophomore, Mickey Davis (Jamesville, N.Y. / Jamesville-DeWitt), to its second team. The 6-foot-5 forward led Morrisville State and the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) in scoring this season, averaging 17.5 points per game, while adding averages of 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Mustangs.
The Morrisville State College athletics department has named sophomore western rider, Amy Meyer (Equinunk, Penn.), and senior men's lacrosse goal keeper, Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 25.
After dropping a 5-1 decision in the first of the double header, Morrisville State softball rebounded in the night cap, topping visiting Hamilton College 8-6 Wednesday afternoon in Morrisville. The Mustangs improve to 4-2 overall, as Hamilton returns with a 5-7 overall record. Morrisville State tallied just three hits in the contest, two from Nicole Duchene (Oneida, N.Y.) who went 2-for-3 from the plate, and one from Cassandra Smith (Lansing, N.Y.) who recorded a double and an RBI in three at bats.
