Maxwell leads Morrisville State men to 12-8 victory over Keuka

Senior midfielder Devin Maxwell (Culver City, Cali.) posted a collegiate best five goals, leading visiting Morrisville State College men's lacrosse to a 12-8 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Keuka College Saturday afternoon in Keuka.



Morrisville State improves to 4-3 overall with the victory and opens the conference schedule with a 1-0 record. Keuka drops to 2-4 overall, 0-1 in NEAC play.



Maxwell added two ground balls to his tallies on the day, while teammates Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) and Jack Martocello (Miller Place, N.Y.) each added two. Andrew Stein (Oswego, N.Y.), Kevin Wilkerson (Nedrow, N.Y.) and Andrew Donoghue (Rochester, N.Y.) rounded out Morrisville State scoring with one apiece. Stein also collected five ground balls in the contest to lead the Mustangs, while Mike Kellogg (Pawling, N.Y.) picked up four.



Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) recorded the win between the pipes, turning away 15.



Gino Marcello and Anthony Luppino each tallied three goals to lead the Storm, while Eric Saltrelli collected the loss in net, saving 10.



Early in the first quarter, Wilkerson put the Mustangs on the board with an unassisted tally before Maxwell added his first of the day at the 3:57 mark to give Morrisville State the 2-0 lead after one.



In the second Keuka battled back to tie it at two with 7:21 remaining, but Beresovoy regained the lead for Morrisville State, netting the man advantage tally off an assist from Stein. The Storm answered back seconds before the half with another tally, sending the contest into the break knotted at three.



Keuka took the 5-3 lead midway through the third with two tallies, but Morrisville State answered back, rattling off four within three minutes time for the two goal lead heading in to the final frame.



Martocello and Maxwell each posted scores early in the fourth to give Morrisville State the 9-5 lead, but Keuka was able to muster three straight tallies, cutting the Mustang lead to one with just over eight minutes showing on the clock.



Maxwell put the Mustangs up by two with seven minutes to go, and added his fifth score of the day minutes later, before Beresovoy secured the win with a final tally with just over a minute remaining.



Keuka held the 33-28 advantage in shots, but Morrisville State won the ground ball battle 36-29.



Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, hosting NEAC opponent SUNY Cobleskill at 7 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
