The Morrisville State College hunt seat team finished the regular season Saturday, recording 35 team points to claim third place at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association invitational held in Morrisville. Skidmore and Colgate topped the team competition with 39 team points to claim the show's top honors.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office announced its player of the week selections for the week ending March 4, naming four from Morrisville State its players of the week in the sports of men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse and softball.
The Morrisville State College western equestrian team added another honor to the program's success on Sunday, completing the 2011-12 regular season as the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2, Region 3 Champions, and advancing eight riders to the national semi-final competition. Morrisville State is the 2011-12 year end high point team and will represent the region at the semi-finals on March 24 and 25.
The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team earned reserve high point team honors behind a 33 point team performance Saturday at the Hartwick College Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) show held in Otego. Skidmore won the show with a collective 41 team points. Colgate was third with 32.
The Morrisville State College women's softball team improved to 3-1 overall on the season following a double header sweep of SUNY Cobleskill Saturday at the Field of Dreams Sports Complex in Schuyler by final scores of 11-1 and 15-7. The losses drop the Fighting Tigers to 1-3 on the season. In the first of the day's action, Cobleskill took a 1-0 lead after one inning before Morrisville State rallied in the top of the third for two runs behind singles from both Kayla Walker (Oneida, N.Y.) and Cassandra Smith (Lansing, N.Y.).
The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team lost their season opener Saturday afternoon against the visiting Elmira College Golden Eagles, 13-8. Morrisville State is now 0-1, while the Eagles rise to 1-0 this season.
The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team faced their first loss of the season against SUNY Oswego on Saturday afternoon, 15-7. The Mustangs are now 1-1 while the Lakers are now 1-0. Leading the Mustangs with three goals was Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, NY). Andrew Stein (Oswego, NY), Mike McGinnis (Syracuse, NY), Devin Maxwell (Culver City, CA) and Richie Fischer (Rochester, NY) all added a goal apiece. Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, NY) had eight saves in net. Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) led the Mustangs with five groundballs.
A local teacher is among those who received the 2012 Terri Lynne Lokoff/Children's TYLENOL® National Child Care Teacher Award. Cynthia Wickens, of Sherrill, a preschool teacher at the Children's Center at Morrisville State College, Inc., is among 52 recipients, six from New York state, who received the prestigious award which is based on teachers' commitment and dedication to children they serve.

The Morrisville State College athletics department has named men's basketball guard, Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, N.Y.) it's Mustang Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 26. Gordon was instrumental to the team's success as they claimed the 2012 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship title this weekend, posting two-day totals of 26 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, four steals and six 3-pointers.
