Morrisville State western team crowned IHSA Zone 2, Region 3 Champions

The Morrisville State College western equestrian team added another honor to the program's success on Sunday, completing the 2011-12 regular season as the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2, Region 3 Champions, and advancing eight riders to the national semi-final competition.



Morrisville State is the 2011-12 year end high point team and will represent the region at the semi-finals on March 24 and 25.



Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, Vt.) earned year end high point rider honors and advanced directly to the national championships in Raleigh in May. Howland topped all competition on Saturday in two classes, and was crowned the regional champion in both the reining and open western horsemanship classes.



Erin Moseley (Cazenovia, N.Y.) took the championship in the advanced western horsemanship class, with fellow rider Elizabeth Scott (Chittenango, N.Y.) placing second and advancing to the semi's.



In the novice western horsemanship class, Stephenie Montanaro (Hagamna, N.Y.) was crowned the regional champion, and Kirby Dygert (Elma, N.Y.) finished second to further the season; while Amanda Meyer (Equinunk, Penn.) claimed the crown and Kelly Hunter (Red Hook, N.Y.) second place for the Mustangs in the intermediate western class.



The semifinals take place at the University of Findlay, in Findlay, Ohio, March 24 and 25.
