The founder of Greek yogurt giant, Chobani, will address Morrisville State College students during the college’s 101st commencement ceremony May 19. Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and president of Chobani, Inc., the parent company for the Chobani brand, will give the keynote address during the ceremony which will take place at 1 p.m. in the Recreation Center.
When Karl Driesel was turned down for a bank loan to help start up his own custom woodworking business, he refused to close the door on his idea. The aspiring entrepreneur hit the streets and wouldn't stop applying for loans, despite the number of times he was denied.
Morrisville State College is hosting a lecture by renowned Canadian architect, Douglas Cardinal, on April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Little Theatre of the James W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC). In 1993, Cardinal was awarded the commission for the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., which resulted in an outstanding design. Famous for fusing tradition with innovation in his work, and curvilinear lines, Cardinal is also known as a pioneer and world leader in the use of computers in the profession of architecture.
Five young, local entrepreneurs will share their business success stories during Morrisville State College's Entrepreneur's Jam March 22. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 1 p.m. in the Little Theatre of the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC). Speaking are: Kimani Smith, of Pyramid Brokerage Co., Class of '10, entrepreneurship and small business management bachelor degree; Class of '07, business administration associate degree.
Morrisville State College will host prospective students and their families during an open house on Saturday, April 14. The college will offer a variety of activities designed to introduce students to Morrisville State College and assist them with their college search process. The open house session, which begins with check-in at 10:30 a.m., will enable prospective students to see the campus, attend a financial aid workshop, meet with deans, faculty and staff, learn about bachelor and associate degree programs, and tour the college's facilities.
For the second year, Morrisville State College has received national recognition for its commitment to community service. The college was among colleges and universities recently named by President Barack Obama to the 2012 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for its campus/community partnership.   Launched in 2006, the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll annually recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful results in their communities.
After nearly a decade of planning and fundraising, the Morrisville State College Equine Rehabilitation Center (MSCERC) recently welcomed its first horses. A public open house is scheduled for April 28, from noon to 3 p.m., at the modern facility which offers equipment and rehabilitation techniques to keep healthy horses conditioned and to help injured equine athletes recover, post-injury or post-surgery. The open house will feature a variety of information stations on different therapeutic modalities, and demonstrations.
Morrisville State College's Office of Workforce and Development will host a job expo, A Pathway to Success, in the Hamilton Hall gym on March 28, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. During the expo, representatives from various companies will be available to answer questions about their organizations, hiring practices, and potential part- and full-time positions and internships they have available. The event is free and open to the public.
Jean Boland, vice president for administrative services and information technology at Morrisville State College, has been named to the AT&T College & University Advisory Council.
The Morrisville State College Theatre Department and Student Government Organization (SGO) will present the musical, Cole, in the Little Theatre of the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC) on the Morrisville State College campus. Show times are: March 16, 17, and 22-24 at 8 p.m. A matinee performance will be held March 18 at 2 p.m.
