Morrisville State College's Renewable Energy Training Center (RETC) will be offering a two day hands-on workshop, Renewable Energy Beyond the Classroom, designed for K-12 teachers.
The workshop, which will explore renewable energy and assembling real systems, will be held on July 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in Shannon and Galbreath Halls. Sessions include: Solar Overview and Solar Thermal Installation, Biodiesel, Microhydro Installation and Wood Gasification.
Solar Overview and Solar Thermal Installation allows participants to interact with the components of a solar domestic hot water system through the installation of a fully operational system in a lab. Biodiesel provides an overview of batch biodiesel production and lab analyses.
Microhydro Installation focuses on the basics of microhydro systems and includes an introduction to site assessment, design and installation. Wood Gasification will allow participants to explore the processes and applications of gasification by building and testing wood gasification camp stoves, which will include a new and improved version that MSC recently has developed.
The workshop will also include a high school level overview of the use of science and math for preparation of students entering into the field of renewable energy. There is a workshop fee of $80. Participants will earn 14 professional development hours (PDH) and 1.4 continuing education units (CEU).
