Jason Zbock has been named executive director at the Norwich Campus of Morrisville State College. Zbock, of Bouckville, will take the helm Sept. 2. In his new role, he will be responsible for the daily operations at the Norwich Campus. Zbock has an extensive career in higher education, most recently serving as the dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Enrollment Planning at Broome Community College.
The Morrisville State campus will be a flurry of activity as it welcomes a new class of freshmen, transfer and returning students during Welcome Weekend Aug. 21-24. Classes begin Aug. 25 at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses. Student athletes will be assisting with moving new students into their residence hall rooms. First-year and transfer students will begin arriving on Aug. 21 (between 8 a.m.-2 p.m.) followed by returning and readmitted students on Aug. 24 (starting at 9 a.m.).

Morrisville State recently touted its culinary talents to Congress. The college showcased an array of food samples during New York Farm Day, an annual event held in Washington, D.C., which boasts a buffet of New York State agricultural products. The event, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, brought together producers of New York's award-winning wines, farm-fresh products and seafood, as well as leading restaurateurs from across New York State, to showcase some of New York's very best.
Morrisville State is involved in a new effort to help train high school students in the renewable energy field. The college hosted a renewable energy workshop that focused on training teachers how to install solar thermal systems that will generate hot water. Eleven high school and BOCES teachers, representing more than 30 school districts, gathered for the intensive four-day workshop, two of which were held recently at Morrisville State's Renewable Energy Training Center (RETC) under the direction of Dr. Philip Hofmeyer, assistant professor of renewable energy.
Faculty, staff and New York State University Police at Morrisville State are reaching out today to assist the Smithfield community that was ravaged last night by a severe storm that claimed at least four lives and whose heavy winds toppled trees and wreaked widespread damage in the small, rural town. Members of the college's New York State University Police, under the direction of Chief Enrico D'Alessandro, are among emergency crews involved in recovery and clean-up efforts today.
The Children's Center at Morrisville State will hold its sixth annual ChildRUN 5k race on Saturday, July 19. The event will also include a one-mile Fun Run/Walk. Registration for the race begins at 8 a.m. the day of the event. The race starts at 8:30 a.m. at Bailey Hall, located on Route 20 in Morrisville.
Morrisville State professor Kim Smith has been selected to participate in the National League for Nursing (NLN) LEAD Institute, a yearlong program for faculty who have been fast-tracked to leadership roles at their academic institutions. Smith, assistant professor, has worked at Morrisville State since 2006 and was recently named interim associate dean for nursing. Prior to working at Morrisville State, Smith, of South Plymouth, worked at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Morrisville State Professor Kerry Beadle, of Hamilton, recently received the Chef Professionalism Award from the Syracuse Chapter of the American Culinary Federation (ACF). Beadle, assistant professor and chair of the college's Hospitality Technology Department and executive chef at the Copper Turret, a college-run restaurant, has worked at Morrisville since 1992.
Morrisville State will host more than 1,000 high school junior boys and staff at this year's Boys State government camp June 27-July 3. Classified as a Leadership Action Program, Boys State accepts young men with outstanding qualifications in leadership, character, service and citizenship who reflect on the image of the youth of America.
