Kim Smith, of South Plymouth, has been named associate dean in the School of Science, Technology and Health Studies at Morrisville State.

Smith, who recently served as interim associate dean in the School of Science, Technology and Health Studies, has worked at Morrisville State since 2006. Throughout her tenure, she has also served as assistant professor of nursing and nursing department chair.

Prior to working at Morrisville State, Smith worked as a staff nurse at Chenango Memorial Hospital, in Norwich, for 13 years.

“I am confident that Kim's experience as a nursing professional and educator, combined with her enthusiasm for health education, will enable her to bring effective leadership in this new role,” said Dr. David Rogers, provost and chief information officer at MSC.

Smith was recently selected to participate in the National League for Nursing (NLN) LEAD Institute, a yearlong program for faculty members who have been fast-tracked to leadership roles at their academic institutions. The NLN LEAD Institute program supports development of organizational, management and leadership skills for the nurse educators who were chosen through competitive application process. Dedicated to excellence in nursing, the NLN is the premier organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. She is also actively involved on the Morrisville campus, serving on numerous committees.

A member of the honor society for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, Iota Delta Chapter, Smith served on the former SUNYIT Nursing Board and also serves on the CSTEP and Dietetics Advisory Boards at MSC.

Smith earned an M.S. in nursing education from SUNYIT, a B.S. in nursing from Keuka College, an A.A.S. in nursing from Morrisville State and is working toward a DNS at Sage College in Albany.
