The Mustangs women's basketball team fell to the SUNYIT Wildcats 69-42 today in Morrisville. Tied at 26 at the break, SUNYIT started the second half with a 15-2 run in the first six minutes of play, outscoring the Mustangs 43-16 in the final twenty. Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY) led the Wildcats with 18 points, two assists, three rebounds and three steals. Following her led, teammate Taylor Topping (Bronx, NY) tallied 14 rebounds, 10 points and two steals.

Morrisville State men's basketball team pulled off a 66-60 upset over SUNYIT today in Morrisville in North Eastern Athletic Conference action. Trailing by two at the half, Morrisville State outshot the Wildcats a season best 52 percent compared to SUNYIT's 30.6 percent from the floor in the second half, posting 35 points en route to the victory.

D3hoops.com announced yesterday its Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, naming Morrisville State College freshman forward/center, Nijah Townsend (Bronx, NY) to its women's team. The Team of the Week is a weekly honor roll in its 14th season that recognizes the top performance at each of the five playing positions in basketball from the previous week.

The Morrisville State College western equestrian team posted 18 top place finishes Saturday as they swept competition with two show wins on December 4 at the Morrisville arena. In the morning show, Morrisville State posted 10 blue ribbons in five classes to claim high point team honors with 35 points. Cobleskill was reserve high point team with 26.

The Morrisville State College athletic department has named freshman Nijah Townsend (Bronx, NY) and junior Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY)) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 5. Townsend, forward for the women's basketball team, led Morrisville State to a 2-1 week, averaging 19.7 points and 12 rebounds per game for the Mustangs. In the win over St. Elizabeth, Townsend posted a collegiate best 23 points, and tallied a collegiate best 17 rebounds in the victory over Wilson.

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its winter players of the week, naming Morrisville State's Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY) the Ice Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending December 5. The junior forward led Morrisville State to a 1-0-1 weekend, scoring twice (one power play) against No. 15 ranked Buffalo State College in a 3-3 overtime draw Friday night, and netting both scores in a 2-1 defeat of Fredonia the following night. The game winner over the Blue Devils was a shorthanded tally.

The Morrisville State College women's basketball team staged a last minute comeback attempt, but fell short Wednesday night to host SUNY Cobleskill, in a 59-54 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game in Cobleskill. The women trailed by 16 with two minutes remaining on the clock before hitting four straight scores, three from behind the arc, to cut the lead to five, but fell short on time as the Fighting Tigers picked up the win.

The Morrisville State College men's basketball team dropped to 2-5 overall, 1-2 in conference action, as SUNY Cobleskill picked up the 70-46 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Wednesday night in Cobleskill. Morrisville State trailed 35-24 at the break before being outscored by 13 in the second half in the loss. Dwayne Wade (Beacon, NY) and Londel Lennon (Hartford, CT) each netted 13 to lead the Mustangs with Hodges Sneed (Syracuse, NY) pacing Morrisville State on the boards with eight.

Morrisville State College sophomore, Henry Petry (Waverly, NY) posted a third place finish in the heavyweight class to lead the Mustangs to a sixth place team finish at the RIT Invitational Saturday in Rochester. Cortland State won the invitational with 148.5 points, followed by Wesleyan with 103, Oswego 94.5, Baldwin Wallace 94, John Carroll 84, Morrisville State 52.5, Case Western 44.5, Kings 27, and RIT with 17. Petry posted a 6-1 overall record on the day, including a major decision in the opening round, en route to the third place finish.

The Morrisville State College women's basketball team picked up their first victory of the 2010-2011 season, dominating host College of St. Elizabeth for the 80-65 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win Saturday afternoon in Morristown, New Jersey. Morrisville State raced out to a 44-29 halftime lead, shooting a season best 61.3 percent from the floor in the first, heading into the locker room with three already in double digits.
