The Morrisville State College women’s lacrosse team opened the 2013 home schedule with a 22-8 loss to visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. The Mustangs fall to 0-3 on the start of the season. Roberts improves to 3-3. Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts, posting five goals while teammates Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) and Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each added a score and assisted another. Kolleen Brown (Willet, N.Y.) rounded out Mustang scoring with one.
The Morrisville State College men’s basketball season came to an end Saturday night, as they dropped the sectional round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament to host St. Mary’s College (27-3) by a 84-66 final in St. Mary’s City, Maryland.
The Morrisville State College athletics department has named Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) the Mustangs Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 10. Dunphy, freshman for the women’s lacrosse team, posted 11 saves in nearly 38 minutes of play in net in the Mustangs 12-9 loss against Elmira. Also a field player at attack, Dunphy registered an unassisted score late in the contest, while adding seven ground balls and a caused turnover to her tallies.
The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team earned reserve high point team honors Saturday, recording 37 team points, nearly edging Regional leader Skidmore College at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) invitational in Morrisville. Skidmore was high point team with 41 points. Four Mustangs took home top show honors, including Keely O’Hara who claimed a first in the open equitation on the flat.
D3hoops.com announced its 2012-13 All-Region teams Wednesday afternoon, naming Morrisville State College men’s basketball head coach Joseph Smith, the East Region Coach of the Year. Smith guided the team to back-to-back North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship regular season and tournament titles, and two straight appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The 2011-12 NCAA bid was the first ever in the history of Morrisville State College.
The Morrisville State College men’s basketball team is continuing their trek into unknown territory, and without hesitation are looking to push forward as they travel to St. Mary’s College in Maryland, for the sectional round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Morrisville State (23-5) advanced to the round, better known as the “Sweet 16”, following a 66-61 overtime defeat of nationally ranked #13 Rhode Island College Saturday. St. Mary’s (26-3) upended Alvernia 72-66 to advance.

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its weekly player of the week awards, naming Morrisville State College senior attack Sybil Stanton (Walton, N.Y.) the women’s lacrosse student-athlete of the week for the week ending March 10. Stanton scored four goals on eight shots to go along with five draw controls in the Mustang’s lone contest this week, a tightly contested 12-9 non-conference loss to Elmira on Saturday afternoon.
The Morrisville State College Mustangs fought back from a late second period deficit, forced an extra frame, and topped host Rhode Island College with a thrilling 66-61 overtime victory to advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament. Morrisville State, for the second straight week, posts the upset to improve to 23-5 overall, and ends the Anchorman’s season (nationally ranked #13 by D3hoops.com) at 26-4.
