The Morrisville State College women’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-9 non-conference decision to host Elmira College, Saturday afternoon in Elmira.
The Mustangs fall to 0-2 to start the season, as Elmira collects their first win.
Sybil Stanton (Walton, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts, tallying four goals, while Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) added two. Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) tallied one, and dished out four assists while Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) posted a score and an assist.
Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) registered a score following 39:37 of play in net, where she tallied 11 saves before being replaced by Veronique Krohn (Amsterdam, N.Y.) for the final 20:23. Krohn posted a save.
Elmira jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Mustangs battled back to post two straight within three minutes to make it a 3-2 game midway through the first half.
The Soaring Eagles rattled off three straight to regain the commanding lead, but Morrisville State wouldn’t give in, posting two quick tallies to head into the break trailing 7-4.
Elmira went up 10-5 midway through the second half, but again Morrisville State battled back, posting three straight to make it a 10-8 game with 10:33 showing on the clock.
Stanton made it a two goal game late in the period, but Elmira added another to secure the victory.
Elmira held the 28-20 advantage in shots, and 38-32 advantage in ground balls.
The Mustangs return to the field Saturday, hosting Roberts Wesleyan at 1 p.m. on Drake Field.
