The Morrisville State College athletics department has named Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) the Mustangs Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 10.
Dunphy, freshman for the women’s lacrosse team, posted 11 saves in nearly 38 minutes of play in net in the Mustangs 12-9 loss against Elmira. Also a field player at attack, Dunphy registered an unassisted score late in the contest, while adding seven ground balls and a caused turnover to her tallies.
The freshman is a graduate of Putnam Valley and is majoring in accounting at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Alice and Rich Dunphy of Putnam Valley.
Hanks was instrumental to the men’s basketball team upset over #13 Rhode Island College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The junior point guard recorded a double-double, posting 12 points and a team best 11 rebounds, while dishing out six assists and stealing five, to advance Morrisville State to the “Sweet 16”.
The junior is a graduate of Henninger High and is majoring in individual studies at Morrisville State. He is the son of Ethel and Shawn Hanks of Syracuse.
