The Morrisville State College women’s basketball team posted a late second half comeback attempt, but ran out of time as Cazenovia College collected the 64-58 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. The Mustangs drop to 1-17 overall, 1-9 in NEAC play. Cazenovia improves to 4-14 overall, 4-6 in the conference.
Host Morrisville State College men’s basketball used an early first half run to hand neighboring rival Cazenovia College a 74-56 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) defeat Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. The NEAC North Division leader improves to 13-4 overall, 7-1 in conference action, while Cazenovia drops to 4-13, 1-8 in NEAC play.
Host Morrisville State scored twice in the second period to claim the 3-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over visiting Buffalo State. The Mustangs improve to 3-15-2 overall, 3-8 in the SUNYAC, while the Bengals post a 9-9-2 overall record (4-6-1 in conference play). Despite being outshot 11 to 5 in the first period, the Mustangs were the only team to find the back of the net when Michael Markowitz (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed a shot past Bengals goalkeeper Kevin Carr.
Morrisville State College students will be among those participating in this year's annual Winter Fest Feb. 9. Indoor games, sledding, face painting, carnival games, an indoor slide and caricatures are among the activities planned during the annual event, which takes place from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Morrisville-Eaton Elementary School located on Eaton Street. Events are free and open to the public.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its player of the week awards, naming Morrisville State College’s junior forward, Jamie Nelson (Stratford, Ontario) the men’s ice hockey player of the week for the week ending January 20. Nelson posted a goal and two assists in the overtime victory over Potsdam on Saturday. His goal came with 1.2 seconds remaining on the clock in the sudden victory period, in a contest that raised awareness for autism, organized by Nelson.
The Morrisville State College athletics department will be recognizing Tom Lemery, the long-time voice of the Mustangs, for his years of service to the college at the hockey game against Buffalo State College on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at the college’s IcePlex. Lemery provided public address to the athletic department for more than 25 years, specializing in ice hockey and basketball. A graduate of Morrisville State, he has also been a member of the casts of many musical and dramatic productions of the college’s theater program.
Junior guard Jordan Prior (Cortland, N.Y.) posted a high 26 points to lead visiting Morrisville State College men’s basketball to a 71-58 victory over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Wells College Wednesday night in Aurora. The win is the ninth straight for the Mustangs who improve to a 12-4 overall mark, and remain atop the NEAC with a 6-1 conference record. Wells drops to 7-11 overall, 3-5 in conference play.
Visiting Morrisville State College women’s basketball struggled from the floor, shooting just 27.8 percent in the contest, as host Wells College collected a 56-34 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Wednesday night in Aurora. The loss drops Morrisville State to 1-16 overall, 1-8 in conference action. Wells nearly pulls even at 8-9, while lifting their NEAC record to 7-2.
The ending couldn’t have played out any more perfectly than it did Saturday night, when Morrisville State College men’s ice hockey took SUNY Potsdam into overtime and dramatically posted a 5-4 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory. But what meant more than just the win on the ice, was the game that was being played to raise awareness for autism, organized by Mustang captain Jamie Nelson (Stratford, Ontario).
The night couldn’t have been captured any better than Morrisville State captain, Jamie Nelson (Stratford, Ontario) posting the game winner with a mere 1.2 seconds remaining in the sudden victory period to lift host Morrisville State College over visiting SUNY Potsdam by a 5-4 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) final on a night that was meant to serve as something more, an awareness and fundraising campaign for Autism, organized by Nelson. The victory lifts the Mustangs to 2-15-2 overall, 2-8 in conference play. Potsdam drops to 6-10-1, 3-6 in the SUNYAC.
