Junior guard Jordan Prior (Cortland, N.Y.) posted a high 26 points to lead visiting Morrisville State College men’s basketball to a 71-58 victory over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Wells College Wednesday night in Aurora.
The win is the ninth straight for the Mustangs who improve to a 12-4 overall mark, and remain atop the NEAC with a 6-1 conference record. Wells drops to 7-11 overall, 3-5 in conference play.
Prior nailed 8-of-11 shots from the floor (72.7 percent), and was hot from long range draining 6-of-7 (85.7 percent), hit perfect from the free throw line (4-for-4), while adding six rebounds and two assists to his tallies. Two additional teammates posted double figures, including Rhamel Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) who added 14 points and six rebounds. Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) closed out top scoring with 11, as Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, N.Y.) grabbed eight boards, leading Morrisville State’s 41-35 advantage on the glass.
EJ Taylor and Al Paul each netted 14 to lead the Express efforts, while Jonathan Hurtado and Jonathan Bonds each posted 10. Bonds led Wells with nine rebounds.
Morrisville State held the 28-24 lead at the break, before going on a 21-8 run in a span of five minutes to claim a 16 point advantage. Prior contributed to the run, hitting three straight from long range. Wells was able to pull to within eight with 12:55 to go, but the Mustangs offensive blitz over the ensuing seven minutes saw the lead grow to as many as 21, posting the conference win.
Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, hosting rival Cazenovia College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
