MORRISVILLE, NY—The SUNY Morrisville Theater Department and Student Government Organization (SGO) present William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy, Twelfth Night, or What You Will, in the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC) theater Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27, at 8 p.m.; Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.; and Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 1-3, at 8 p.m.

SHERBURNE, NY—Talon Abrams has been fascinated with amphibians and reptiles since he was 4 years old, catching snakes and frogs in a backyard creek at his Madison home. Some even made their way into his bedroom so he could examine them more closely in a glass bowl.  That allure eventually led him to SUNY Morrisville to pursue a bachelor’s degree in renewable resources technology. He wants to land in a career where he can help aquatic life, animals and the environment. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—SUNY Morrisville topped its Annual Yearling Sale with the highest horse and as the lead consignor.    The highly anticipated sale — the only one of its kind on a college campus in New York State — drew a crowd of potential buyers, sellers, trainers and owners from across the Northeast. All of the trotters and pacers sold are New York eligible. Seven Spankings, a Chapter Seven colt out of Spin The Planet, topped the sale at $50,000, purchased by Wanda Polisseni’s Purple Haze Stables of Fairport, New York.

MORRISVILLE, NY—SUNY Morrisville has been named Grand National Champion of the 2018 U.S. Open College Beer Championship, taking home the honor of the college that brews the best beers in North America.  The U.S. Open College Beer Championship, now in its third year, is a competition among student brewers at colleges and universities that offer brewing courses to help determine the best future brewers in North America. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—The tears on Sarah Pylinski’s cheeks were happy ones. Clasping a diploma under one arm and her two children in the other, she had a difficult time containing her emotions. “A college degree will open so many doors,” said the single mother, from Norwich, who made the decision to go to college at age 32 to make a better life for herself and her children. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College student Unique Wellington chose a cow he named “Heffy” for his first time presenting in the ring.  “She was the friendliest of the group,” he said of the heifer he showed during the college’s Spring Showmanship event. Approximately 60 students, some skilled and others with no experience, showed lambs, dairy cows and beef cattle during the annual event.  “I just wanted the experience of competing,” said Wellington, a 19-year-old student from Nanuet, located in Rockland County. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Laurie A. Zbock of Madison has been named Morrisville State College’s Distinguished Faculty Award recipient for 2018.  The award is presented annually to a faculty member who displays professional growth, personal and professional achievement and has provided outstanding service to the college. She will be recognized during the college’s 107th commencement ceremony on May 5 at 1 p.m. in the Recreation Center.  Zbock, associate professor and chair of the Massage Therapy Department, joined the Morrisville faculty in 2007. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College students Latorsha Washington, of West Hempstead, and Haley Kilmartin, of Fort Plain, have been honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. The prestigious award recognizes students who have best demonstrated, and have been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, campus involvement, or career achievement. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by SUNY.
