MORRISVILLE, NY—Fascinated by Morrisville State College’s unique hands-on approach to education, Jesse Paul Chandler feels he has an idea to truly put the college over the top.  “We have incredible things going on around campus, but I think the one thing that’s missing is fungi,” Chandler said in his opening remarks before a panel of judges during the 2018 Cotton Business Idea Competition. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College has once again been honored for its commitment to effective urban forest management, receiving 2017 Tree Campus USA® recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation. Tree Campus USA, a national program created in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, honors colleges and universities that show a commitment to encouraging students and university personnel to care for tree resources. Morrisville has received Tree Campus USA recognition for five consecutive years, dating back to 2013.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Prepare to be hauntingly entertained as the Morrisville State College Theater Department and Student Government Organization (SGO) present Sweeney Todd: A Musical Thriller.  The musical, composed by Stephen Sondheim and written from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, will be performed in the Little Theater of the college’s Student Activities Center March 23-24 and 29-31 at 8 p.m. and March 25 at 2 p.m.  Tickets are available at the door. General admission is $8 and $3 for students. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Boosting the self-esteem of others comes as a natural skill for Haley Morris.  Her passion for doing so has led Morris to pursue a career in massage therapy, which she plans to combine with her love for cosmetology and one day work at a spa.  “I like helping people feel better about themselves,” Morris said as she prepared her workstation in Hamilton Hall.  Morris, of Canastota, got a head start on her dreams through the SkillsUSA Area II Regional Conference, hosted on the Morrisville State College campus Feb. 2. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—During one weekend each year, a special event brings alumnus Taylor McDowell back to Morrisville State College to follow a passion.  “Game programming is a dream of mine,” said McDowell, who graduated from Morrisville in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in information technology: application software development. “I get to live that out through this.” 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College has several opportunities to contribute to the success of SUNY Chancellor Kristina Johnson’s first State of the University System address delivered Monday. It was Johnson’s first State of the University address since her administration began in September. President David Rogers attended the address in Albany, where Chancellor Johnson outlined her vision to boost SUNY as a leader in innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Nearly 900 students from 18 different high schools will gather on the Morrisville State College campus as they showcase a variety of talents during the SkillsUSA Area II Regional Conference on Friday, Feb. 2.

Cuomo’s 2018 agenda, as outlined through 22 proposals shared Wednesday as part of the State of the State Address. President David E. Rogers attended the address Wednesday in Albany, where Gov. Cuomo spoke on “Realizing the Promise of Progressive Government” as his theme for the year.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Dr. Timothy W. Gerken, associate professor of humanities at SUNY Morrisville, is the first recipient of the SUNY Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) Award for Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice.
