MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College will have a strong presence again this year at the Great New York State Fair, featuring a handcrafted scale-model canoe, a student-built hot rod, horses and renewable energy and hemp displays. The fair runs Aug. 23-Sept. 4. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Two staff members from the Children’s Center at Morrisville State College were recently honored with statewide awards as the center also claimed national reaccreditation. 

Every summer growing up, Hayley Cosgrove looked forward to attending The Great New York State Fair so she could admire Morrisville’s elegant stable of Belgians. Cosgrove fondly admired the graceful draft horses as they competed in the show ring, wishing she could be right alongside them.    

Morrisville State College senior Byron Evans hadn’t yet chosen a major when he first arrived on campus in 2013, let alone thought about joining the men’s cross country team. Four years later, his name is etched all over the college’s record books.

During a wood processing course last fall, Morrisville State College students Lena Hanes and Paige Biviano learned important lessons: Building furniture takes a long time, demands lots of patience and requires seemingly endless sanding.

The first time Christine Barta-Gallagher wrote a paper for a Morrisville State College class, she cried. “It was overwhelming,” she said. “It took me days to write that paper. For me to sit down and type 2,000 words was really difficult.”

Imagine if homework consisted of operating chainsaws, wielding axes and log rolling. That’s exactly the case for members of Morrisville’s woods sports team.

Morrisville State College is tapping into the renaissance of the craft brewing industry in New York State, with a new curriculum and four-year degree program that includes hands-on brewing experience at the Copper Turret restaurant and a line of Morrisville-branded beers that will be available to the public.

MORRISVILLE, NY—As part of Morrisville State College’s annual celebration of academic excellence, students from the School of Science, Technology and Health Studies were honored for their outstanding achievements. More than 175 students were recognized on the school’s academic honors list during the annual awards dinner, where 22 awards and scholarships were also presented. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Jenna Doktor, of Corfu, and Savannah Short, of Coram, have received the 2017-18 Bridget Kate Publicover Scholarship, awarded annually by the Morrisville College Foundation to students majoring in an equine program. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College partner Good Nature Farm Brewery is officially open for business. New York State Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced its official grand opening in Hamilton, Madison County. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—The Children’s Center at Morrisville State College will host its ninth annual Race for ChildRUN on Saturday, July 15, to benefit students.    Proceeds from the ChildRUN benefit the Sheila Johnson Child Care Scholarship, awarded to an MSC student who has a child enrolled at the Children’s Center. The event will feature a 5K (five-kilometer) run, as well as a one-mile fun run for younger children and their friends and family. 

MORRISVILLE, NY— Morrisville State College will host more than 1,000 high school boys at this year’s American Legion Boys State government camp June 25-July 1.  Attendees were chosen based on their exceptional qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty and service to their schools. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College students Mailynn Amos, of Brewerton, and Zipporah Oparebea Opare, of Ghana, West Africa, are the recipients of this year’s Beverly McKay Office Technology Award, an annual scholarship presented to selected students majoring in office technology programs. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Future agricultural leaders honed their skills on the Morrisville State College campus during this year’s New York State FFA Convention May 11-13.  More than 1,000 of the best and brightest high school students from across New York flocked to campus to gain hands-on experience in their future agricultural career fields during the event, which showcased some of the best MSC has to offer.

MORRISVILLE, NY—Shelby Scholefield lined up diagrams that illustrate the relationships between a male murder victim and people he may have known.  “The ones close to the center, the closer they are to the victim,” said Scholefield, one of seven criminal justice students from Morrisville State College who recently assisted the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office with a cold case murder investigation. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College students were honored for their outstanding achievements during the 17th annual School of Liberal Arts Banquet ceremony, which is part of the college’s annual celebration of academic excellence.  A total of 11 awards were presented to liberal arts students by the department’s professors during the event, which was presided by Paul Griffin, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—More than 1,000 of the best high school students and future NYS agricultural leaders will converge on the Morrisville State College campus as it hosts this year’s New York State FFA Convention May 11-13. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—As Kara Budinock was helping her father grow beans, pumpkins and cucumbers in the family garden at age 5, little did she know she was planting the seeds of her career. The annual custom, along with her creative flair, led to bigger things at Morrisville State College where she pursued an interest in floral design and vegetable production through the college’s horticulture programs. 

MORRISVILLE, NY–Six Morrisville State College faculty/staff members were recently honored with Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence by the State University of New York and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. Recipients will be recognized during the college’s 106th commencement ceremony, which will be held May 6 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—Dr. Clare Armstrong-Seward of Smyrna has been named Morrisville State College’s Distinguished Faculty Award recipient.  The award is presented annually to a faculty member who displays professional growth, personal and professional achievement and has provided outstanding service to the college. She will be recognized during the college’s 106th commencement ceremony on May 6 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center. 

MORRISVILLE, NY—It was Morrisville State College student Austin Graham’s first time showing a lamb, but “Miss Izzy” made it look easy for her. “It’s pretty physical work showing a lamb, but working with her was the brightest part of my day,” said the 19-year-old agricultural business student from Laughton, Penn.
