The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly award winners Monday, naming Morrisville State College’s Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) the Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Co-Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 21.
Wood, sophomore midfielder, led Morrisville State to a 3-0 week behind a 19 goal, seven assist performance, helping keep the Mustangs undefeated in conference play. She added a total 15 ground balls, 13 draw controls and eight caused turnovers to her tallies on the week.
She opened the week with a game high six goals and four draw controls in a 15-7 win over SUNYIT before closing the week with a high eight goals, four assists, nine ground balls, and five caused turnovers in a 23-4 rout of Wilson on Saturday.
The week’s tallies moved Wood into second all-time in goals scored in a career (144) and Points tallied (186), and placed her at the top of the all-time leader board in assists dished out in a career (42). She currently leads the conference in ground balls (52) and caused turnovers (29), while ranking second in points (83) and assists (23).
Wood was the NEAC Rookie and ECAC Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Year last season, and earned first team all-conference honors and Synapsesports.com all-Rookie team accolades.
The graduate of Holy Names Academy is majoring in journalism and communication for online media major at Morrisville State College and is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood of Duanesburg.
