The Morrisville State College athletic department has named sophomore Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) and freshman Casey Jean (Tully, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 7.
Wood led the Morrisville State women’s lacrosse team to a 2-0 record on the week, picking up conference victories against College of St. Elizabeth and Penn State Abington, behind a 12 goal, six assist performance. Her 18 points were in addition to 12 draw controls, 11 ground balls and four caused turnovers. She tallied a high seven goals, four assists, seven ground balls, five draw controls, along with two caused turnovers in a 23-7 onslaught over Abington on Saturday.
Wood currently ranks second in the conference in assists (13) and points tallied (47).
The graduate of Holy Names Academy was the NEAC Rookie and ECAC Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Year last season, aside from earning first team all-conference honors and Synapsesports.com all-Rookie team accolades.
Jean, attackman for the men’s lacrosse team, was instrumental to the Mustangs 2-0 week, registering five goals and assisting six as Morrisville State picked up conference wins over Cobleskill and Wells College.
In the win over Cobleskill, Jean tallied three goals and an assist before following up with a collegiate best two goals and five assist performance against Wells. Jean also added a total three ground balls on the week.
The graduate of Tully High is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. He is the son of Brenda and Daniel Jean of Tully.
