Morrisville State College junior forward, Rhamel Williams (Bronx, N.Y. / John F. Kennedy) has been named to the 2012-13 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Men’s Basketball All-Star second team as
announced by the conference office yesterday afternoon.
Williams, a first team North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) selection, has been key to the Mustangs success on the court this season, as they captured their second straight NEAC regular season and championship tournament title, earning another bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
In the first round of the NCAA tournament, Williams registered 14 points, four rebounds and two steals to assist Morrisville State to an 86-78 upset over Ramapo, as the Mustangs collected the first tournament post-season victory for the college.
One of five players to average double figures, Williams has appeared in all 27 games for Morrisville State at the forward position, starting 24. Averaging 23.3 minutes per game, he has tallied 280 points to date on the season (10.4 per game), collected 166 rebounds (6.1 per game) to lead the Mustangs on the glass, and registered a record breaking 85 steal season, topping both the team and NEAC leader boards. Williams currently ranks 6th overall in the nation in steals per game (3.2).
Out of his 166 rebounds, 64 were on the offensive glass, ranking seventh overall in the NEAC.
Williams posted a best 16 points and 11 steals in the win over Lancaster Bible, setting a new school and conference record for steals recorded in a single game in mid-January, earning NEAC Player of the Week honors.
The graduate of John F. Kennedy High is a sports, nutrition and fitness management major at Morrisville State College. He is the son of Zona Williams of Bronx.
