Western riding team collects high point team and reserve team honors

The Morrisville State College western equestrian riding team posted high point team and reserve high point team honors on Sunday, as they hosted the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) invitational at the riding arena on Swamp Road in Morrisville.

Morrisville State collected 31 points in the first show to earn high point team honors, topping reserve show champion Cobleskill who tallied 15 team points.

Kelsey Stewart (Cuttingsville, N.Y.) led Morrisville State to the show win, collecting high point rider honors on her blue ribbon finish in the open reining class and third place in the open western horsemanship class.

Erika Wolf (East Hampton, N.Y.) and Jessica Flint (Brushton, N.Y.) each topped the field in the novice western horsemanship class, while teammates Nicole Pulcher-Guzek (Troy, N.Y.), Rebecca Brunecz (Sugar Grove, Pa.), Meghan Moriarty (Adams Center, N.Y.) and Nicole Lagree (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) each collected blue ribbons in the intermediate western horsemanship II class, respectively.

Kaitlyn Saunders (Bennington, Vt.) claimed the top spot in the beginner class.

In the afternoon, Rianna Nalepa (Endicott, N.Y.) and Megan Freemantle (Middlefield, Conn.) tied for high point rider honors to lead Morrisville State to reserve high point team honors. Cobleskill was high point team for the show with 23 team points, edging Morrisville State who registered 16.

Freemantle was the blue ribbon winner in the open reining class, while Nalepa claimed top honors in the open western horsemanship class.

Flint again topped the competition in the novice class, while Danielle Ascani (Dover Plains, N.Y.) also took the top spot with her first place finish in section B.

Briena Seidel (Gasport, N.Y.) placed first in the intermediate western horsemanship II class while Paige Lapolt (Swan Lake, N.Y.) earned the blue in the intermediate I class.

Morrisville State returns to the riding arena, February 9, hosting a double show at the Swamp Road Arena.
