The Morrisville State College athletic department has named hunt seat equine rider, Amanda Varall (Bohemia, N.Y.) and men’s lacrosse goalkeeper Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 30.
Varall claimed the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone II Region 3 Regional Title in the walk trot canter class on Saturday at Skidmore College, topping a competitive field of 14.
Her top finish assisted the hunt seat riding team to Reserve Regional Champion honors for the season. Individually she advances to the Zone Championships held Sunday, April 7 at CW Post University’s North Shore Equine Center in Greenvale, N.Y. to compete for a slot to the IHSA National Championships in May.
The sophomore equine science and management major at Morrisville State is the daughter of Lynda and Joseph Varall of Bohemia.
Fiore assisted the men’s lacrosse team to a 1-1 week, posting a total 31 saves (.649 save percentage) in two games on the week, including a collegiate best 24 against Keuka on Saturday.
He posted his first win of his collegiate career on Wednesday as the Mustangs defeated SUNYIT.
The freshman is a graduate of New Dorp High and is majoring in sports, nutrition and fitness management at Morrisville State. He is the son on Cathy and Kevin Fiore of Staten Island.
