Today represents a remarkable confluence of two important national recognition weeks, both very important to SUNY Morrisville.
The first is National Teacher Appreciation Week, which officially began Monday and ends today. Throughout this week, students, parents and communities have come together to celebrate educators and share posts on social media using #thankateacher. The National Education Association (NEA) is even inviting educators to a virtual dance party, featuring DJ Spinderella tonight at 7 p.m. on Instagram. Check out the NEA website for more details.
The second is National Nurses Week, which officially began yesterday and ends May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, a famous British nurse whose advocacy set the standard for modern nursing today. This year, honoring our nurses is more important than ever. They are risking their lives on the front lines every day fighting this pandemic. Please consider taking this opportunity to share a post using #NursesWeek2021 to thank them for their brave service.
So students, today when you see your faculty, whether in person or even remotely, consider extending a simple thank you for their dedication to all who seek to learn. And if you happen to see a nursing faculty member this week, consider extending a double thank you.
I am fairly certain that your sentiments of appreciation will be well-received. I am absolutely certain that they are well-deserved.
