The Morrisville State College athletic department has named junior cross country runner, Austin Townsley (Horseheads, NY) the Mustang Athlete of the Month for September.
Townsley was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) runner of the week twice during the month, once for a second place finish (21:05 in the 6K run) at the SUNY IT Wildcat Invitational in early September, and a second time for his first place finish (28:01 time for the 8k run) at the Hobart Invitational midway through the month.
Townsley's first place finish at the Hobart Invite guided the Mustangs to a team first place finish, the first time in over 30 years for the program and first since the transition to the NCAA.
Aside from consistently finishing as the top runner for the Mustangs, Townsley posted a personal best at the Hylander Invitational at Houghton College, finishing the 8k race with a time of 26:59.18.
The NEAC All-Conference first team selection last season is majoring in network administration at Morrisville State. He is the son of Mary and Frank Sherwood of Horseheads, New York.
