The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its players of the week for the week ending February 23, naming Morrisville State College's Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y.) its women's basketball athlete of the week.
Townsend led Morrisville State to three victories over the week, including a pair of conference wins, keeping the team's chance for a play-off opportunity alive. Over the course of the week she posted averages of 18.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, while recording on average 22 points and 12.5 boards per game in conference play.
On Saturday, Townsend posted a collegiate best 32 points and 16 rebounds (12 on the offensive glass) in the 80-60 victory over conference rival Cazenovia.
She currently leads Morrisville State in both points (16.7) and rebounds (10.7) per game, while ranking in the top six in the conference in each category.
This is the second time Townsend has been recognized by the conference office for her play.
The sophomore forward is majoring in individual studies at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Yvette and Desmond Townsend of Bronx.
