Sweet treats for Valentines at Nelson Farms Country Store,soup sampling every Friday and Saturday during February

Looking for a treat for your Valentine? Or a way to beat the winter chill?



Stop by the Nelson Farms Country Store on Route 20 in Nelson.



Awaiting consumers is an assortment of tantalizing chocolates and confections. Check out dark and milk chocolate drum sticks, chocolate pizza hearts and chocolate pizza slices (topped with colorful candies) from The Chocolate Pizza Company, Inc., in addition to cherry cordials, truffles and toffee from Saratoga Sweets.



There are lots of other goodies and treasures for Valentine sweethearts including fudge, peanut brittle, maple candies and Chocolate Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Sauce by Arbor Hill Winery.



Consider a gift basket filled with an array of Pride of New York local products ranging from jams and jellies and salsas to syrups, barbecue sauces, marinara and gourmet pasta sauces, mustards, dressings, pancake mixes, chocolate sauces, nuts, candy and more.



Take an edge off of the winter chill every Friday and Saturday at the Country Store, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. during February, with samples of homemade soup.



The Country Store recently introduced its cream of broccoli cheddar soup and is planning a vegetarian chili, made by Amanda Hewitt, product development manager and 1988 graduate of Morrisville State College's dietetic technician program.



There are also frozen soups to choose from: cream of mushroom, seafood bisque, New England clam chowder and a black bean soup; and soups in a jar that include minestrone, cream of tomato, garden tomato and Manhattan clam chowder.



Additionally, the store is stocked with more than 500 products to delight any consumer. New additions include Utica Coffee Roasting coffees in various blends (Jamaican Me Crazy, Adirondack Blend, Adirondack Blueberry Blend), soaps, and soy candles.



Also in stock at The Country Store are mild, medium or hot Slather Sauce, Maple Madness Syrup, Pineapple Salsa, Sweet-n-Spicy Apple Mustard, Apple-n-Spice All-Purpose Seasoning & Rub, Mustang trail mixes and other products produced and marketed by students in Morrisville State College's agricultural business development program.

Nelson Farms Country Store winter hours are: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The store is located between Cazenovia and Morrisville in the village of Nelson on Route 20 and the corner of Nelson Road.



Nelson Farms, operated by Morrisville State College, is a unique combination of a business incubator, food product processing facility and hands-on academic classroom.
