SUNY Morrisville is offering free training for prospective students, educators, guidance counselors and others interested in exploring opportunities and emerging technologies in automotive, diesel, agricultural technology, agricultural engineering and renewable energy through its Automotive & Clean Energy Summer Institute June 24-27.

Participants can attend technical sessions, take a campus tour and network with some of the best in the industry. Training will be held in the college’s state-of-the art laboratories and facilities, including the Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology (ACET) Center.

June 24 is Career Exploration Day, from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Interested prospective students, educators, guidance counselors and parents are invited to a day filled with learning, demonstrations and networking. Technical sessions include car wrapping, paintless dent repair, tower climbing, biofuels and more.

June 25-27 is Teacher Professional Development Days, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., featuring three days of additional technical sessions for high school educators and instructors in the fields of renewable energy, automotive, diesel and agricultural technology to sharpen their skills, refresh their industry knowledge and learn more about up-and-coming technology in their areas of expertise.

Participants can attend one, two or three days, plus the Career Exploration Day.

The training is possible through a grant from the Offshore Wind Training Institute (OWTI). The college is among eight SUNY institutions to receive a grant, nearly $4 million announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul to prepare students for careers in the growing offshore wind industry.

The college’s $500,000 grant will be utilized for various training opportunities, including K-12 awareness and recruiting and coordinating with workforce development agencies to establish a skilled workforce. College credit-bearing courses are among other opportunities for prospective students, teachers/educators and others looking to explore career options in offshore wind and renewable energy.
