Smith named NEAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) recently announced its 2011-12 Men's Basketball All-Conference and regular season awards, naming Morrisville State College's head coach Joseph Smith the 2012 Coach of the Year.



Smith, a native of Sherrill, N.Y., guided Morrisville State to an NCAA best 17-8 record in 2011-12, while finishing atop the conference's North Division with a 14-1 record, earning the Mustangs the top overall seed in the NEAC Championship Tournament.



Smith had three players earn all-conference honors alone this season, including Mickey Davis (Jamesville, N.Y.) who was named the NEAC Player of the Year.



In his third year at the helm of the program, Smith has compiled an overall record of 36 wins and 38 losses, while guiding the team from a fifth place finish in 2011 with a 10-9 conference record, to first place in the North in 2012 at 14-1.



Morrisville State will host the 2012 NEAC Championship Tournament Saturday, February 25 (semi-finals) and Sunday, February 26 (championship) in the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities Gymnasium. Penn State Harrisburg tips off against Wells College at 2 p.m. in the first semi on Saturday and the Mustangs follow against Penn State Berks in the second semi at 4 p.m.
