Six earn NEAC Men's Lacrosse All-Conference honors; Longo named 2011 Coach of the Year

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) recently announced its 2011 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference teams, naming six Morrisville State student-athletes to its three teams.



Adam Lewis (Painted Post, NY), Andrew Stein (Oswego, NY), Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) and Jonathan Fried (Jordan, NY) garnered first team honors, while Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, NY) and Thomas Owens (Cazenovia, NY) took home second and third team honors, respectively.



Morrisville State head coach, Jason Longo, was named the 2011 NEAC Coach of the Year, leading the Mustangs to its second straight regular season conference title with an undefeated 6-0 conference record.



In just his second year at the helm of the program, Longo has compiled an overall record of 24 wins, six losses, while compiling an unblemished 12-0 conference record. In each season, he has coached the Mustangs to the top seed in the conference tournament, capturing the title last season. Morrisville State will again play for the conference title on Saturday.



Lewis, senior attackman who also was named the NEAC Player of the Year, led Morrisville State in scoring, tallying 40 goals and assisting 13 others in 13 games on the season. Lewis posted a collegiate best eight goals and two assists in a single game earlier this year. He ranks fifth overall in conference play in goals per game and sixth in points per game.



Stein, senior midfielder, was third on the team in scoring, posting 20 goals and 19 assists in 13 games, adding 47 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers to his totals on the season. Stein led the NEAC in man down goals scored (3) and was sixth overall in assists per game. He posted a best six goals and assisted another in a single game earlier this year.



Longland, junior defender, led Morrisville State in ground balls (50) and caused turnovers (29). In the regular season victory over Keuka, Longland recorded a season best eight ground balls and caused six turnovers.



Fried, senior defender, earned first team all-conference honors for a second straight season. In 13 games for the Mustangs, he collected 26 ground balls, and caused 16 turnovers. Against Cazenovia, Fried posted a season best four ground balls and six caused turnovers.



Junior goalkeeper, Hinchey, earned all-conference honors for a second time, following a 9-3 overall record in net, while going undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 record. In 12 games, he recorded 114 saves, while facing 424 shots, in 713 minutes of play. Hinchey posted a season best 14 saves in the loss to Plattsburgh. He ranks fourth overall in the conference in saves per game.



Owens, sophomore attack, was second on the team in scoring, netting 30 goals and 20 assists for 50 points. He leads the team in assists (ranks fourth overall in the conference), while topping the conference in game winning goals (3). In 13 games this season, he added 25 ground balls and five caused turnovers to his tallies. Owens posted a best five goals and three assists twice this season, leading to two conference victories.



The top seeded Mustangs defeated Medaille in the conference tournament semi-final and face second seed Keuka Saturday at 3 p.m. for the tournament championship title on Drake Field in Morrisville.
