Seniors Andrew Lucio (Syracuse, N.Y.), Brandon Henry (Harlem, N.Y.) and Ryan Jameson (Greenwich, N.Y.) combined for 44 points Tuesday night, leading Morrisville State men’s basketball to a decisive 106-69 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting SUNY Cobleskill, on senior night in Morrisville.
The win lifts the Mustangs to 18-5 overall, 12-2 in conference action. Cobleskill drops to 5-19 overall, 3-11 in the NEAC.
Seven posted double figures for Morrisville State, led by Lucio who tallied 18 points as he drained six from long range, all in the first half, while posting a team high three steals. Henry added 15 points and Jameson tallied 11, nailing three from beyond the arc.
Rhamel Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) came off the bench to contribute 15 points, while teammates Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Mickey Davis (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 12 and 11, respectively, with Hanks dishing out six assists and snagging eight boards. Jailaan Kinsey (Syracuse, N.Y.) rounded out the leaders with 10 points, assisting six.
Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Mustangs on the glass, snagging 10, as Morrisville State dominated the boards by a 43-17 margin.
Tyrone Mitchell (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) led the Fighting Tiger efforts with 25 points, on 6-of-7 from long range, while collecting four steals and assisting two. Travis Woods (Mount Upton, N.Y.) added 16 points and two rebounds.
Morrisville State held a slim three point margin over Cobleskill nearly six minutes into the opening stanza, before Lucio got hot from long range and nailed three straight in just over a minute’s time to break open the Mustang lead to 12.
The Mustangs drained 10 alone in the first half from downtown, and shot 71 percent from the floor on 22-of-31 shots, to race out to a 59-32 advantage at the break.
Morrisville State continued their shooting streak into the second, and Cobleskill had trouble recovering, as the Mustangs increased the lead to as many as 43 before closing out the period for the win.
Morrisville State finished the contest with 15 tre’s, hitting 41-of-63 shots from the floor (65.1%) while Cobleskill found the bottom of the net 27-of-63 times (42.9 %), including seven from beyond the arc.
The Mustangs conclude the regular season on the road Saturday, traveling to SUNY IT, as Cobleskill closes out the season on the road at Cazenovia. Morrisville State will await conference tournament seeding, to be announced at the conclusion of the regular season.
