A second period scoring burst led top nationally ranked Oswego State to a 5-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over host Morrisville State College Friday evening in Morrisville.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 0-6 overall, 0-5 in conference action, while the Lakers remain untouched at 5-0, 4-0 in SUNYAC play.
James Jarvis (Pickering, Ont.) scored the lone tally for the Mustangs, while Ryan Marcuz (Richmond Hill, Ont.) collected the assist.
Netminder Christopher Azzano (Oshawa, Ont.) posted the loss between the pipes, turning away 22, before being relieved by Jakob Rasmussen (Vellentuna, Swe.) for the final 24:47. Rasmussen registered 20 saves, allowing just one Laker score.
Chris Brown (Centreville, Ont.) led Oswego State with a goal and two assists, while four additional Lakers each posted scores, including Zach Josepher (Wantaugh, N.Y.) who also added an assist.
Andrew Hare (Burlington, Ont.) registered 27 saves on the night, posting the win between the pipes for Oswego.
Oswego posted the first score of the night just 5:44 in, as Matt Singleton (Brooklin, Ont.) got a stick on the rebounded shot from Brown in front of Azzano, on the Lakers first power play opportunity of the night.
Marcuz responded for Morrisville State minutes later, intercepting the puck in the Oswego offensive zone and feeding it cross ice to Jarvis on the fast break for the equalizing tally at the 10:19 mark.
After a Chris Ayotte (Cornwall, Ont.) score to give the Lakers the 2-1 advantage, Oswego went on a surge posting two additional goals, each on power plays to take the three goal lead heading into the final frame.
In the third, Rasmussen kept the Lakers at length until 11:46 when Brown collected the fourth power play score for Oswego for the 5-1 victory.
Oswego State held the 47-28 advantage in shots over Morrisville State, and converted 4-of-8 power plays for scores.
The Mustangs return to the ice tomorrow, hosting SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m. at the IcePlex.
