Potsdam nets 17-10 victory over Morrisville State women

Visiting SUNY Potsdam posted nine straight scores over a span of 13 minutes en route to a 17-10 victory over Morrisville State College women's lacrosse Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.



The Mustangs drop to 1-4 overall, while the Bears pull even at 3-3.



Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with four goals and an assist, while Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Hillary Hartnett (Fairport, N.Y.) each added two. Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ont.) and Lesa Ward (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) rounded out Mustang scoring with one a piece. Wood added 11 ground balls and nine caused turnovers to her tallies, while coming up with eight draw controls.



Danielle Puzio (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded the loss in net, making 10 stops, five in each period.



Carly Richards (Niskayuna, N.Y.) paced Potsdam with three scores, adding four assists, while teammates Sierra Langkammerer (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Margaret Wall (Rochester, N.Y.) each posted three. Wall also added four ground balls and three caused turnovers to her tallies on the day.



Kaci Milligan (Liverpool, N.Y.) recorded the win between the pipes, saving six in 41 minutes of play, before being replaced by Jen Chmiel (Rochester, N.Y.) for the final 19 minutes, who made five stops, while allowing six scores.



Potsdam held the slim 5-3 margin over Morrisville State with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half, before rattling off nine straight tallies over the next 13 minutes to take a commanding 14-3 lead with 24:50 to go in the second.



Edmondson broke the Mustang silence at the 19 minute mark, netting a score from Wood, before Wood posted three straight within three minutes to bring Morrisville State within seven. The remainder of the half went back and forth as both Potsdam and the Mustangs tallied three more goals each, including two by Morrisville State in the final 1:20 of the contest.



Potsdam edged Morrisville State in shots and ground balls, but the Mustangs dominated draw controls, posting an 18-11 advantage.



Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, opening North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play against the College of St. Elizabeth at 11 a.m. on Drake Field.
