Host Oswego State men’s basketball claimed the 2012 Max Zeil Tournament Title Saturday night, posting a 83-59 victory over Morrisville State College.
The Mustangs, who opened the season Friday with a 87-59 defeat of Medgar Evers, drops to 1-1 overall with the loss.
Two posted double figures for Morrisville State with Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) leading the way shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor for 17 points on the night. Hanks added three rebounds, two assists and two steals to his tallies, while Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, N.Y.) posted 14 to round out top scoring for the Mustangs.
Rhamel Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) led Morrisville State on the glass, grabbing five boards to go along with his nine points.
Hayden Ward and Daniel Ross each netted 17 points for Oswego, while Sean Michele tallied 11 in the win.
The Mustangs outgained the Lakers in the second half, but had to overcome a slow start as Morrisville State shot just 36 percent from the floor in the first period, while Oswego hit 18-of-25 shots (72 percent) to race out to the 46-20 halftime lead.
Ater was named to the All-Tournament team.
Morrisville State returns to the court Tuesday, hosting Clarkson University at 7 p.m. in the newly renovated STUAC gymnasium.
