Morrisville State women's soccer loses overtime heartbreaker to Wells College

The Morrisville State Mustangs lost a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon to the Wells College Express, 3-2 in double overtime, as they played their second annual Goals for a Cure game.

The Mustangs came out strong, scoring the first goal of the match at 6:51 when Lindsay Peri (Marathon, N.Y.) touched a pass from Nicole Achtyl (North Collins, N.Y.) past the final line of defense before burying a shot past Express goalkeeper Ashley Roser.

Wells College answered back, however, scoring their first goal just under five minutes later to even the score, 1-1. Chelsey Martinelli scored next for the Express, giving them the 2-1 advantage going into halftime.

Morrisville State came out strong in the second half and after not being able to finish on some great opportunities, Krista Baxter (Downsville, N.Y.) dribbled through three defenders before passing the ball into the corner of the net, equalizing the game at 2-2 at 76:46.

After playing an evenly matched first overtime session, Wells College earned a free kick from the 40-yard line, where Heather Hiltbrand shot a rising bullet past Mustangs goalkeeper Jennifer Zidzik (Lambertville, N.J.), earning the Express the 3-2 overtime victory.

Zidzik recorded the loss for the Mustangs, tallying seven saves, while Roser earned the win for Wells with six saves.

Morrisville State hosts Keuka College in their final game of the season on Tuesday, October 23rd at 4:00 PM on Drake Field in Morrisville, N.Y.
