Host Morrisville State College women’s basketball earned their first win of the season Sunday afternoon, topping visiting Wilson College 45-33 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Morrisville.
The Mustangs improve to 1-12 overall, 1-5 in conference action, while Wilson drops to 2-8, 0-7 in the NEAC.
Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 15 points to lead the Mustangs, hitting 11-of-12 from the free throw line, while adding seven rebounds and three assists to her tallies. Queen Holquin (Bronx, N.Y.) added 10 points and seven rebounds in the win, collecting three steals and two assists. Joslyn Paige (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and Akiella Parks (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) controlled the glass for Morrisville State, each snaring eight while combining for nine points.
Wilson had a team best performance from Vanessa Whitfield (Chambersburg, Pa.) who led the way with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Whitfield went 10-for-12 from the free throw line on the day. Ashley Yealy (Hanover, Pa.) added eight points and a high 17 rebounds in the efforts.
Morrisville State led 18-16 at the break and played to a back and forth contest until the 11:58 mark when the Mustangs put together a 10-3 run, claiming the eventual victory.
The Mustangs return to the court Wednesday, traveling to SUNY Cobleskill.
