The Morrisville State College women’s lacrosse team posted their sixth straight victory Saturday afternoon, topping visiting Wilson College 23-4 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The Mustangs improve to 7-5 overall, and remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0, while Wilson has yet to capture a win, falling to 0-8 overall, 0-6 in NEAC play.
Eight different players posted scores on the day, including Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) who tallied a high eight goals and four assists. Megan Carlin (Pawling, N.Y.), Meghan Soto (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) each posted three apiece.
Veronique Krohn (Amsterdam, N.Y.) earned her first collegiate victory in net, turning away four.
Jess Menard led the Wilson efforts with two scores, while Nicole Melanson and Megan Longstreet rounded out Phoenix scoring with one each.
Alexis Ankro posted the loss in net, saving 10.
Morrisville State struck early, notching the first score of the afternoon just 34 seconds into the contest, and added another 30 seconds later before rattling off 14 additional tallies for a commanding 16-0 lead after the first period.
The Mustangs opened the second half with three tallies before Wilson was able to get one of the board, but added four additional goals down the stretch to top the visitors by a 19 goal margin.
Morrisville State outshot Wilson 42-10, and dominated the ground ball game 37-15, as the Phoenix had 30 miscues on the day. Wilson edged Morrisville State in the draw, winning 16 to the Mustangs 13.
The Mustangs return to the field Tuesday, traveling to Medaille College.
