Four tallied double figures as the Morrisville State College women's basketball team handed host Wells College a 61-52 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) defeat Tuesday night in Aurora.
Morrisville State improves to 8-13 overall, 7-7 in conference play, while Wells fell to 6-15 overall and 4-9 in the NEAC.
Dyshea Smiley (Harlem, N.Y.) paced the Mustangs with 14 points, hitting 5-of-7 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, while dishing out five assists. Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y.) each added 12, Townsend adding nine rebounds, as Tierra Hollins-Hill (Bronx, N.Y.) contributed 11.
Ashley Roser was the lone Wells College player to net double figures, leading the Express efforts with 19 points and 10 rebounds, adding five blocks and four assists.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the first half, managing a combined 41 points as Morrisville State held the 25-16 lead at the break.
In the second, Wells climbed to within six with 5:29 to go on the clock, but Morrisville State got four straight points from Paul and a three from Smiley to regain the 11 point advantage and eventual win over the Express.
Morrisville State shot 52 percent from the floor, including 5-of-10 from downtown. Wells struggled from the floor, converting just 16-of-56 shots (29 percent).
The Mustangs return to the court Thursday, hosting SUNY Canton at 7 p.m. in the STUAC Gymnasium.
