Morrisville State women drop 63-73 on the road at Brockport

Visiting Morrisville State College women's basketball shot a mere 21 percent in the second half as host SUNY Brockport picked up the 73-63 non-conference victory Friday night in Brockport.



Morrisville State drops to 1-7 overall, while Brockport picks up just their second win of the season, improving to 2-7.



Nijah Townsend (Bronx, NY) posted a game high 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Morrisville State's efforts, while teammate Nijee Scott (Bronx, NY) added 14 points, grabbed eight boards, and assisted a team best seven. Tierra Hollins-Hill (Bronx, NY) added nine points and Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, NY) eight to round out top scoring for the Mustangs.



Four were in double figures for the Golden Eagles, including Kelly Grinnell who posted a team high 20 points with Cecilia Segrist adding 16, collecting a team high 12 rebounds. Rachel Csakany tallied 15 points and 10 boards for the double-double, while Desiree Fauvelle netted 11 to round out the Brockport scoring leaders.



Brockport led by as many as 11 in the first half, before the Mustangs chipped away and took a 41-40 lead at the break on a jumper from Paul.



Both teams played to a back and forth second half, until Brockport took the lead for good midway through the period building up as much as a 12 point advantage as the Mustangs continued to struggle from the floor, hitting just 8-of-38 shots from the floor.



Morrisville State shot 36 percent from the floor, but could only muster one out of 16 from behind the arc on the night, while Brockport hit nearly 44 percent from the floor, including 7-of-18 from downtown.



The Mustangs return to the court Saturday, January 7, resuming conference play against the College of St. Elizabeth at 1 p.m. in Morrisville.
