The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team capped off a record setting 2012 campaign at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinals, falling 15-9 to second seed Marywood.
Morrisville State concludes the season with a program best 13-6 overall record, as they claimed the regular season North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West title, NAC West Championship Tournament title and a historical first bid to the ECAC Championships.
Lesa Ward (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) led the seventh seeded Morrisville State efforts with three goals, while teammate Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) chipped in two scores and assisted another. Hillary Hartnett (Fairport, N.Y.) also added two tallies, as Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, N.Y.) and Alison Falkenburgh (Bayport, N.Y.) rounded out Mustang scoring with one each.
Danielle Puzio (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded the loss in net, turning away 12.
Kimberly Commisso and Diana D'Achille combined for nine goals for Marywood in the win, while Leigha Dolcemascolo posted nine saves between the pipes.
Marywood opened the contest with an unassisted score in the first five minutes of the contest before Wood responded for Morrisville State with a tally on a free position shot. Marywood then rattled off three straight for the 4-1 advantage, but Ward posted two consecutive scores to get the Mustangs back in the game with just over 11 minutes to go in the first half.
Finding the back of the net four times, three on free position opportunities gave Marywood the 8-3 advantage at the break.
Marywood jumped out to a 11-3 lead early in the second half, but Morrisville State was able to find the back of the net five times over the next 15 minutes to cut the lead to 13-8 with under nine minutes remaining on the clock.
In the closing minutes, Marywood added two final tallies to the Mustangs one, claiming the 15-9 victory to advance to the semi-finals.
Marywood held the 38-21 advantage in shots and 28-18 onslaught in ground balls, but Morrisville State won the draw control battle 14-12.
