Morrisville State western team opens 2011 season with high point team honors

The Morrisville State College western equestrian team opened the 2011-2012 season campaign with high point team honors Saturday, sweeping all competition in both the morning and afternoon shows.



Morrisville State topped compiled 33 team points to edge reserve high point team SUNY Cobleskill (25 points) in the morning show, and repeated in the afternoon with 28 team points to Cobleskill's 18.



Megan Freemantle (Middlefield, CT) and Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, VT) tied for reserve high point rider honors in the morning, and Howland claimed the high point rider title in the afternoon.



Freemantle placed second in both the reining and open horsemanship classes in the morning, as Howland earned a fourth in reining and took top honors in the open horsemanship class.



Six additional Mustangs took the blue ribbon in their respective classes in the first show, including Brittney Smith (Lowville, NY) and Christine Towne (Rutland, VT) in the novice horsemanship class.



Amy Amento (Hamend, CT) and Meghan Moriarty (Adams Center, NY) each opened the season with a class win in intermediate II horsemanship, while Kelly Hunter (Red Hook, NY) posted a first in the intermediate I class.



Richard McVey (Lakewood, PA) took top honors in the beginner horsemanship class to wrap up blue ribbon winners for Morrisville State in the morning show.



Howland took home blue ribbons for the Mustangs in both the reining and open horsemanship classes, and Elizabeth Scott (Chittenango, NY) followed with a first place finish in the advanced horsemanship class.

Towne earned her second blue ribbon of the day in the novice class, while Nicole Blanton (Callicoon, NY) also collected top honors in section B of the novice horsemanship class.



Moriarty and Emily Bryant (Scoharie, NY) finished at the top of the intermediate II class, while Hunter and McVey repeated first's in their respective classes.



Morrisville State returns to the riding arena, November 20, hosting a double show at the Swamp Road western barn.
