Morrisville State western team escapes competition, remains undefeated

The Morrisville State College western equestrian team narrowly escaped competition Saturday afternoon, collecting their fifth and sixth wins of the season to remain undefeated.



In the first of the double show, the Mustangs posted 32 team points to collect show champion honors, while Colgate University earned reserve champion honors with 30 team points.



Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, VT) earned reserve high point rider honors, placing second in both the open horsemanship and reining classes.



Andrew LaManque (Cold Brook. NY) took top honors in the advanced western horsemanship class, with teammates Kirby Dygert (Elma, NY) and Jeremy McDermott (Middleburgh, NY) winning the blue ribbon in the novice western horsemanship class.



Breann Schwarting (Earlville, NY) and Shannon Mayo (Westfield, MA) were top place winners in the intermediate II class, while Heather Cousins (Burnt Hills, NY) took first place in the intermediate I class.



In the afternoon show, Morrisville State escaped Cobleskill for high point team honors with 29 points, while the Fighting Tigers tallied 26 for reserve team honors.



Megan Freemantle (Middlefield, CT) earned high point rider honors with first place finishes in the reining and open horsemanship classes, and Howland was reserve high point rider, placing second in both classes, respectively.



Margaret Roberts (Weedsport, NY) was the top rider in the advanced western horsemanship class, while Schwarting and Jennifer Boise (New Haven, VT) won the blue in the novice western class.



Amy Amento (Hamend, CT), Jennifer Lauri (Sweet Valley, PA) and Mayo took top honors in the intermediate II class to round out top place winners for the Mustangs.



Morrisville State returns to the riding arena Sunday, February 27, hosting the final double show of the year.
